What is Ollo?

Ollo is like a search engine, web directory, classified ads site and yellow pages all rolled up. It is a place where people can come to buy and sell things. Ollo makes the process of finding what you want, where you want, as easy as possible. Likewise, the process of advertising something is hassle free.

How does Ollo do it?

The starting point is listening to you. Sure we have to weigh advertiser's interests with users interests but some things are given. We don't spam you; we don't pack the pages with Google ads or other stuff. We just give you what you are asking for.

The service is free. A limited number of positions at the top of search results pages are for paying Premium Ads. On the most popular keywords Ollo uses a bidding system so these ads are called Premium Ads with Bid Keywords.

Users searching Ollo have a simple search interface, no complicated directory to navigate! The advertisers use keywords or tags to lead you straight to relevant results. Location tags let you find things in your town or city too.

History of Ollo

The roots of Ollo go back to March 1994 when Apollo (apollo.co.uk) launched its global advertising website. Apollo did well. In 1997 WebCrawler put it in the top 100 most linked sites in the world (3rd in Europe). Apollo was one of the first database driven websites, the first to use geo targeting and the first to charge for ads in a directory (controversial stuff!)

Apollo sadly went the way of many large sites and abandoned just before the Internet boom! Founder Gordon Wilson then spent a decade doing web IT and web marketing for McAfee and Citrix. Allegedly coming back to web search in the form of Ollo (son of Apollo) is his second best idea. "It's a long shot but it might just work!"
